About Your Trainer: Kelsi Halvarson
Kelsi Halvarson has been training leaders, employees, and teams for over ten years. She trains a wide range of audiences including government agencies, corporations, non profit leaders, family caregivers, youth mentors, and parents. Kelsi holds a Master's Degree in Strategic Leadership and combines her education with her experience to provide a unique training program that is proven to develop you into a better leader. After completing the program (and even after just one session!) participants often state that their confidence and awareness have increased and they feel equipped with new tools and strategies to lead more effectively. Kelsi is known for being supportive and encouraging which allows for a fun and successful learning environment. Her honest approach and her heart to see leaders reach their full potential engages leaders in a powerful way to help them develop their skills as a leader.
Leadership Development with Arrowhead Trainings
Arrowhead Trainings uses horsemanship to facilitate leadership development in a way that provides a fun and memorable experience. Each session is individually tailored to help sharpen leadership skills and clarify values as leaders learn how to connect and communicate with a horse. You will learn about effective leadership as you receive feedback from your equine partner. Although horses seem intimidating to some, we provide a safe learning environment that allows you to go at a pace that is right for you. You will be given the opportunity to learn, make mistakes, and fine-tune your skills.
Sessions begin with a brief discussion about leadership and the focus of the session. The participant is then given a brief demonstration of a groundwork activity with the horse before spending the majority of the session doing the activity with guided instruction from the trainer. Each session ends with a short debrief about what was learned. No riding is involved (but it can be incorporated at the participant's request) and no prior horse experience is required.
Leadership with Horses
Our sessions are effective because participants do not just learn about the concepts of leadership, but actually get to apply and test those leadership concepts. Participants are able to explore and test their own beliefs about leadership and then receive immediate feedback from their equine partners. As a result, long-lasting leadership transformation takes place.
We use horses to help teach leadership for several reasons. First, horses are herd animals which causes them to look for and expect leadership from others. Second, horses are prey animals which causes them to be sensitive to a person's intentions and nonverbal communication. Lastly, horses are extremely sensitive to human emotion and tend to mirror the feelings of the person working with them.
